1st Place – Best Development for Social-Affordable Rent

Anthony Brosnan and Mike Mills recently attended the Northern Housing Awards on Tuesday 2nd May 2023 at The Point, Emirates Old Trafford where our Dob Brook Close housing development in Newton Heath was awarded the Best Development for Social-Affordable Rent.

This is a fantastic achievement for the whole team and we were very pleased to win this award, especially with some stiff competition!

October 2022 – we celebrated our 40^th Anniversary with a get together for PLP staff, clients and suppliers that we have worked with over the last 40 years and who have helped us to be the business we are today!

PLP have really enjoyed engaging with the pupils and teachers at St Luke’s Primary School – as a company we are always keen to get involved in the communities we work in.

Whilst we’ve been on site at school building the seven classroom extension we have tried to involve the staff and children as much as possible by putting together a programme of activities including site visits throughout the build process so the staff and children could see the new building develop – we’re hoping to have inspired some future construction workers when we carried out a careers event with Year 6!

We’re also very proud to sponsor the school football team and hope they have a winning season!

Last week PLP invited the National Federation of Builders to join us for the day at St Luke’s – the NFB brought along their Virtual Reality Headset and let the children take a virtual tour of a James Bond Style Hotel to show them how 3D modelling is now being used in construction.

During the day the children also put their building and team working skills to the test by creating some amazing tetrahedrane models, PLP and the NFB were very impressed by the models the children created and how well they worked together!.

PLP Construction are delighted to be working on a project for Peel building a new nursery in Trafford:

Peel Land and Property has broken ground on the new highly sustainable £1.5 million purpose-built nursery which will be TraffordCity’s first child care facility and one of the most environmentally friendly buildings in its portfolio to date.

The contemporary building, which will be developed by Peel Land and Property for multi-award winning nursery group Kids Allowed, will be a flagship development in terms of its green credentials, featuring the first Sedum mat green roof in TraffordCity as well as within its own portfolio.

The environmentally friendly Sedum mat green roof works by retaining and purifying rainwater which naturally reduces the amount of water flowing into the drain, therefore cutting the quantity of contaminates filtering into the drainage system. It also brings insulation and noise reduction benefits as well as an ever changing attractive green view for employees in the neighbouring Venus building to enjoy.

Joanne and Lesley Haslam, Training Co-ordinator from the National Federation of Builders visited St Joseph’s Primary School in Heywood.

“We took with us some Oculus Rift Goggles used on a laptop with high spec software and an Xbox controller.

“The game utilises a 3D BIM (Business Information Modelling) model and helped us demonstrate to the Year 6 pupils how technology is transforming the breadth of careers available within the construction sector.

“By using the equipment pupils were able to experience a full 360 degrees virtual reality walkthrough of a building before a spade had even been put into the ground.

“The model highlighted the increase in digital design and build practices that are being adopted by the construction industry and introduces the importance of collaborative working among all trades within the sector. Students were taken in their groups to experience the BIM goggles throughout the visit.

“We talked with the children about the benefits of BIM, the digital future of construct and how the aim is to ensure the industry works together collaboratively.

“Pupils also built tetrahedrane models to create a giant pyramid – practising their team building skills and collaborative working!”
